With the deepest respect for her clients, Joy is honoured to work collaboratively with them as they navigate the impacts of life’s challenges and work toward healing and growth. Joy has a warm and genuine nature and prioritises building safety and connection with her clients. She assists clients in building awareness of the various factors that are influencing their mental health and uses a gentle and directive approach that helps clients to move forward.

Joy works with clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, past traumas, immigration, and life transitions. Joy tailors her approach based on each client’s unique needs. She utilises a blend of mindfulness and somatic practices, Adlerian therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy. She specializes in treating clients who have experienced traumas of various kinds using EMDR. Joy also takes pride in working with couples who are struggling with life changes, using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).

Before becoming a counsellor, Joy worked with newcomers to Canada, including international students. Working with clients going through significant transitions such as immigration, becoming a parent, and career change, is one of Joy’s passions. Joy’s own story is one of transitions. Originally from Scotland, Joy came to Canada in her early twenties and knows what it’s like to adjust to a new life and raise a family halfway around the world from her family of origin. When Joy is not working, she enjoys reading, walking forest trails with her dog, and spending time with family and friends.
