Karen has extensive experience working with children, youth, couples and their families. She feels passionate about helping individuals and families impacted by depression, grief, addictions and anxiety. She has a special interest in working with individuals who have experienced trauma and adverse childhood experiences.

Karen believes that each individual and family is unique and therefore tailors her therapy in collaboration with her clients. She provides a safe and accepting space for clients to explore their challenges. Karen believes in the importance of the relationship between the counsellor and the client as being imperative for creating positive change. She believes that the process of seeking help and creating a therapeutic relationship through the counselling process opens the opportunity to experience inner strength and resilience in order to move clients from experiencing suffering to experiencing joy.

Karen applies her extensive experience with a range of therapeutic interventions based on the client’s goals. The integrative therapeutic approach can include EMDR, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Emotionally Focused Family Therapy Systems, Mindfulness Based Techniques, Solution Focused Therapy and Narrative Based Therapy, Motivational interviewing, Art Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Karen has over 30 years of experience working with individuals with mental health challenges.

She has had the opportunity to work with various organizations such as Child and Youth Mental Health, Adult Mental Health, Non profit community organizations serving families and people with disabilities, EAP for workers in Construction and Mining, and Post Secondary Counselling Departments.

Karen has witnessed the amazing capacity that all clients have for growth and healing and she feels grateful making a difference in the lives of her clients.
