Michelle strongly believes that through a collaborative lens, therapy should be an empowering process of discovery and change through developing greater self-awareness, building effective coping skills, and making positive changes that align with personal values and aspirations. She aims to create a safe, non-judgmental space where clients feel supported, valued and understood, enabling clients to explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors at their own pace.
Michelle takes pride in working with people who experience struggles with mood such as anxiety and depression. She also specializes in working with obsessive compulsive disorder and body dysphoria and eating disorders.
Her experience includes several years of experience providing Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD-related disorders. She also has years of experience providing peer-support services through the Looking Glass Foundation to young adults who experience eating disorders, disordered eating, body shape concerns and clinical perfectionism.
Michelle has developed a therapeutic approach that balances person centered support with an emphasis on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) case conceptualization, incorporating techniques such as skills training from Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), as needed. Michelle includes a social justice basis to her therapeutic orientation, blending a systemic lens into evidence-based practice. This involves collaboratively identifying how social and systemic factors intersect with personal experiences, addressing specific patterns of behaviors and thoughts that may be contributing to challenges while acknowledging and addressing the impact of systemic issues.
A deep respect for the power of connection between people and witnessing the profound impact of introspection has guided Michelle to the field of psychology. When Michelle is not working, she is making candles, painting, or spending time with her loved ones (especially her dog Koda). She also values reading, comedy clubs and baking.
